Zhong (Aaron) Guan

About me

I am a MRSD student at The Robotics Institute at Carnegine Mellon University. I received my Bachelor of Engineering with first class honor from Department of Electronic & Information Engineering, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I have also studied at McGill University as exchange student and FH Aachen University of Applied Science as ROS summer student.

I was a deep learning research intern at Mech-Mind Robotics where I developed RGBD-based deep learning and computer vision solution for robotic grasp in real industrial condition. Prior to that, I was a Software Development Engineer at HSBC, where I supported the largest electronic payment system EPS in Hong Kong. Apart from internship, I have fortunately worked with Prof. Chen Li in Terradynamics Lab at LCSR, Johns Hopkins University, Prof. Kin-Man Lam at PolyU, and Dr. Yanan Cao at Institute of Information Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

I am a robotics enthusiast. I have more than 2 years experience in robotics and have developed 4 autonomous robots, including 3 robotic cars and 1 quadrotor. All my projects are listed in Project Page. In particular, I am experienced in signal processing, embedded system development, computer vision, and deep learning. My long-term interests lie in how robot can operate efficiently and safely in a human-involved environment and how they can better assist and serve people, especially disadvantaged people, in their daily lives.
